great video what brand of FTK? looks like a mix of parts from guarder and systema
by Brad November 22nd, 2008The entire kit was Guarder aka Intruder Shop. I did add the bushings from a separate package only because the set in the kit had been previously used in another project.
by 6mm November 22nd, 2008Love your videos MechBox! so helpful and instructive!
You should have a Christmas giveaway! I missed your last one by a few days… =(
by Daniel November 24th, 2008Cool Videos, Thanks 6mm!!!
by Luis November 25th, 2008Good Video, I’ve learnt a lot with this, since other videos don’t show how some springs get attached correctly.

by John December 3rd, 2008Hey Bro, great vid…I had to change me wiring because of stupid mistakes..now I am putting a CA m-16 wiring to the stock..is there any special way to in tall the wiring..casue i notice you guy never took it out ..thanks Simon
by Simon Brice December 3rd, 2008Your shimming isn’t very good. You have to use a fairly amount of time to make the shimming very precise, so that there is no rattling, but the gears still have to move without any problems. With such a imprecise shimming, your pinion gear on the motor will only if you’re lucky interact perfectly with the bevel-gear.
I think you should make a video only about shimming. It’s a very crucial point.
by Anders December 17th, 2008How do you know his shimming is not good ? Were you there ? Did you shoot that mechbox ? You can’t make a video on shimming b/c not everyone’s shimming will be the same. You just have to assure whoever is working on their mechbox to take their time on it.
by Josh December 30th, 2008I did not have gear grease at the time of the upgrade and used a type of oil, will my gearbox be damaged???
by C.Regan January 2nd, 2009Josh > The video is nicely showing how to disassemble and assembling the box, but the tie spent on explaining how to shim correctly is non existing. A beginner who see this video wouldn’t think of correctly shimming. I can’t tell you weather the shimming of this box is good or not. What i meant was… his _method_ isn’t very good. He doesn’t even mention that you should pay attention to the interaction between the pinion gear and bevel gear – or sector and spur and so on.
Regan > Oil is too thin to use in your box.
by Anders January 11th, 2009Thanks for all the comments and feedback on the topic of shimming the mechbox. We’ve heard it over and over about making a good video on “how to shim”. As soon as we get our camera, we’ll put shimming on the top of the list. -6mm
by 6mm January 11th, 2009How do you know if you shim your gears on the right height?
by Jonathan January 17th, 2009Excellent tutorial!
- I had to reopen my gearbox though as it wouldn’t fire, it only pulled the spring all the way back and held it there so I had to have done something wrong. But since the high tension from the spring caused a minor (but expected) explosion I wasn’t able to see what exactly caused the problem.
Anyone got any ideas to what it might be that I did wrong?
by Björn January 18th, 2009Mechbox;
When are you doing anything with a version 7 gearbox? Soon would be great, I’m at a complete loss with my m14.
by Will January 23rd, 2009can you use pertroleum jelly for greasing?
by Pat February 15th, 2009I’m just wondering because i have more of that than white lithium
do you only shim on one side of the gearbox? or can you shim on both sides?
by e1m4user May 2nd, 2009I always shim both sides unless the combination of gears and bushings are too tight to allow room for shimming on one side.
by 6mm May 2nd, 2009Hi
by Tiburon May 4th, 2009i have the JG M733 DX
i never open it
and i want to intsall FTK
do you think i will we be able to do all right like in the video and will not be any other problems?
How has the FTK held up? I’m considering buying one for my G36.
by Mike May 11th, 2009Mike, honestly the FTK is pretty good, the SCAR on the other hand has been a real pain. Cursed maybe is the better way to describe it. I’ve had 99% good luck with most FTK systems.
by 6mm May 13th, 20096mm, If my M4 already has a m120 spring in it, would i be able to upgrade it to a m130 without any other upgrades? Im not sure how high the risk is that it would strip the gears. could you help me out please?
by Tanner May 19th, 2009my trigger keeps popping out, and the tappet plate is clicking that one gear out of shape and i can’t close the gearbox while still holding onto the spring. any help closing it?
by e1m4user June 18th, 2009What’s the brand of silicon gel and white lithium you used? Can I get those in a hardware store?
by Wong July 31st, 2009I have a CA M14 EBR that I have a lipo for and am worried about destroying the gearbox.
What systema, or anything for that matter, FTK or parts would be needed to insure I don’t fry my box?
