  1. Great and helpful video. However, the AUG has a fairly different trigger and wiring assembly that might be confusing. Could you explain how to properly disassemble and reassemble an AUG trigger assembly?

    by Zach June 22nd, 2008

  2. hey, thanks for this video it realy helped me, but i do have a question, would it be possible to put a g36 selector plate on an ak47 gearbox?

    by Chris June 22nd, 2008

  3. Zach, thanks for the note. As soon as we get another AUG in here, we’ll reshoot and demonstrate the trigger. -6mm

Chris, the AK47 plate uses the half gear to move the plate and is completely unique from the G36 selector plate. The two are not compatible.

    by 6mm June 22nd, 2008

  4. How bout doing one for the “motor upgrade” on the aug. You broke the fear I had, to go inside the box. Thanks again…

by Robert Leverett June 23rd, 2008

  5. Will mechbox.com feature advanced wiring tutorials? Such as MOSFET and capacitor wiring guides?

    by TAMU_John June 25th, 2008

  6. Robert, we’ll get to the motor swap on the AUG eventually!
    ***
TAMU_John, definitely, we do want to go deeper with the content, like the wiring kits, etc….we’re working on plans right now to get our hands on more upgrade parts.

  7. I am regreasing my gearbox, should I purchase silicone gel or spray? (I need the spray, but will it not work as well for they cylinder?)

    Thanks

    by Connor July 1st, 2008

  8. How can I save this video? Thanks!

    by msg July 1st, 2008

  9. Connor, use white lithium for the gears and gel or spray silicon for the other rubber and plastic parts.

msg, the older videos are not downloadable -yet. We’re planning to reshoot the older videos in HD, then make them downloadable.

  10. please help with gearbox locks/jamms?

    by alex July 2nd, 2008

  11. ok this is not working for me we have reassembled the mechbox about 4 times. the third try we got 2 shots off out of it. i am upgrading a tm ak47 with a m130 spring and metal parts, the gears keep on jamming, what is wrong?

    by andrew July 7th, 2008

  12. andrew, M130 is pretty hardcore unless you also added torque up gears and/or a more powerful battery. What is “jamming” exactly? Does it not complete the rotation (and fire)?

    by 6mm July 7th, 2008

  13. Nice work , very , very helpful. I`m looking for some info on how to disassemble and reassemble a gearbox for STEYR AUG , and try to solve my problem with semiautomatic fire.

  15. WHERE IS THE REASSEMBLY FOR V3 GEARBOX

    by KEVIN July 19th, 2008

  16. KEVIN, keep watching the video. The V3 video is a little different, it has both the disassembly and reassembly in the same video.

    by 6mm July 20th, 2008

  17. I did this with my ICS ak74m and every time I put the gearbox back together and test it the gun will either only fire in full auto or it will fire in semi but the trigger will stay locked forward after each shot, then you have to pull back on it before firing another shot. Any idea what could be causing that?

    by s00pcan July 22nd, 2008

  18. Hey there, working on my G36 V3 mechbox, i am unable to remove the cover plate, or retaining strap. It is pressed up tightly against the black part behind it…
I have tried applying a little bit of silicone lubricant, and tried prying from the back and pulling form the sides. Any suggestions?

  20. my trigger assembly kinda fell apart on me and i have no idea what to do……. please help

    by eric July 25th, 2008

  21. Hey, everything is great except when I fire in semi-auto I have to manually put the trigger back forward, in full auto, it returns normally. Did i miss a spring or something in the trigger assembly?

    by Scott July 25th, 2008

  22. Hi, my I must say this guide is very helpful on the dissasembly of my g36c gearbox and the extra tips sure are a great help. I got a problem though, when i opened my gearbox the trigger was lose so I had to put it back together. However i’m stuck with the little spring next to it (between the trigger and the alu block that slides the contact for the battery), i have no clue how to put it right for its function. And for Ben, it does need a bit of force to open it, just use a small flat screwdriver, pry it against the black part and the plate and push it from a corner, when it slides, it’s easy to remove.

    by bob July 28th, 2008

  23. Hey 6mm, you say to use white lithium for the gear grease, but when I opened my SRC G36 gearbox, the grease looked very brown and thick, akin to that I find in my acura. What’s the advantage of the white lithium over the standard grease?

    by Erik July 28th, 2008

  24. Erik- White lithium works better in all temperatures and is generally easier to find in stores. Also requires less to be effective.

    by 6mm July 29th, 2008

  25. How can you keep the mechbox from locking up? I haven’t opened the mechbox and the anti-reversal latch keeps catching and I have to unlock it.

    by John August 12th, 2008

  26. I was just wondering if you guys could post a video on proper maintenance on the version 3 gearboxes. (I just got the Ak47 Spetsnaz by TM and was wondering about maintenance, I’m scared of using it too much, without maintaining it properly.) Also, are there any gun specific maintenances? For example, Lubing the selector switch on the Ak47 Spetsnaz? (I dont know if you are actually supposed to do that, its just in my mind to because mine came very stiff and I’m having problems switching from semi to full.) I would also like to know about any Ak47 Spetsnaz regular maintenance tips if any of the moderators or users have any, please email pagalsmurf@gmail.com. Once again thank you for posting videos on Ak47 assembly/disassembly, and version 3 gearbox videos. Thanks a lot.

  27. Can you give a guide for the sig 552? Is it any different?

    by Ryan August 25th, 2008

  28. How differant is the V3 box in the G36C? (specifically an Echo1) Is there anything in particular that I should be aware of before trying to cracking open the box?

    by Jon September 9th, 2008

  29. Hi, I have a problem with G36C from stti, it’s my backup gun :) I’ve disassembled mechbox, cleaned it, lubricated it and than put it back together. When I fire the spring with piston stays pulled. I don’t know what causes the problem. Please help :) thx a lot. MS

by Michal Scherks September 14th, 2008

  30. hey 6mm i took apart the g36 gear box but when i opened the gear box the trigger fell off and i tried to put it back together but the gun would not fire, the trigger would be stiff and would not respond so if you could make a video explaining how to put together the trigger that would be great thanks

    by Jeremy September 17th, 2008

  31. Hey, this is helpful, but the Aug is notably different. And im not really smart enough to figure out how to do it… i really need to figure it out though. Is their any chance you could explain that one?

    by AF September 20th, 2008

  32. Hey, great video! I have a JG G36c and I, like Ben above, am having a ton of trouble getting the cover plate / retaining strap removed, I have tried applying pressure all over the thing and all I have succeeded in doing is scratching it. Anyone have any tips with this on an Echo 1 or JG G36?

    by Dave September 25th, 2008

  33. Will this be the same on a jg g36c? if not could you do one on your tm because atleast it will be closer to that…

  36. Hey there, putting the trigger back in is impossible. Any tips on getting it back in?

    by Luc October 19th, 2008

  37. I have the same problem as Scott, on semi-auto the trigger does not return. But on auto it works great.

If I find a solution I will post it.

    by Dan October 23rd, 2008

  38. hey, i tried to take my nechbox apart and the trigger spring has come out, where should this go?, also there is a spring thats something to do with the trigger box thing, the electrical box the trigger pushes in to,this spring has come unattached and i have no idea where it goes, its not the spring that is to do with the piston its a smaller one.

    any help would be great

    thanks

    by ben October 30th, 2008

  39. Yes Im also currently having some trouble with a certian lever behind the slide that pushes the conductor in to the switch. This lever piece continues to jam and cause the slide to ‘pop’ out of place. This part also does not recall the slide to complete a semi-auto cycle. Do I buy a new gun? lol

    Thanks

    by Frank November 3rd, 2008

  40. we really need you to have a g36 mechbox breakdown and rebuild i did mine and it took for ever to put back together!

    by Matt November 9th, 2008

  41. I’m planning on upgrading my stock Echo 1 G36c’s existing 6.08mm barrel. I plan on adding a 6.1in CCW mock suppressor and threading an M4 length 6.03mm tight bore barrel through it. My question is do you need to modify the existing Version 3 mechbox in any way to accommodate this upgrade?
    My mechbox come stock with:
    -steel gears
    -polycarbonate piston
    -M120 spring

    by Nick November 11th, 2008

  42. Nick – Other than gears, piston and spring, you should consider nice bushings (I like Guarder) and you should be good to go. I’m a believer in using the least amount of parts possible. Unless you’re aiming for 500fps fullauto, most AEGs don’t need more than a M120 spring, bushings and gears.

    by 6mm November 12th, 2008

  43. I would like to ask a question.
Is the way to remove piston head as shown in this video same as Tokyo-Marui G36C ?
I found difficulty in removing the piston head of my TM G36C.It did not loosen after turning in anti-clockwise direction.

And also,if I use M100 spring to replace the original one,do I need to replace some other parts?

    by Waven November 14th, 2008

  44. thanks so much! I used this video for two takedowns so far, and both have gone flawlessly. only problem i had was getting the trigger assembly to fit back in before putting the case in! you guys rock!

  45. I have a jg G36C and i can’t get the trigger back together LOL, i was very careful not to bump it and i went to put the other half of the GB back on and pop…there goes the WHOLE trigger assembly….i go all of it back to normal accept that spring, it baffles me and i have NO idea where it goes, please e-Mail me ASAP, i need to fix this by Wednesday! 060892072998@msn.com

    by Gaz November 24th, 2008

  46. For all you people having trouble with installing the trigger, watch this. Any gun TM compatible, will work. For the retaining plate, just pull REALLY HARD with pliers. I had to hammer mine off and then had to bend it so it slides on better. Stupid clones………

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vg3r0yRpyA&eurl=http://airsoftreports.editboard.com/airsoft-trouble-shooting-f14/pulling-the-plate-retaining-strap-off-a-v3-g36-mechbox-t1265.

Also, I’m having some trouble, (and I see other people are as well) with my E1 G36C. After putting the gearbox back together, the trigger locks back on semi auto. (Like I have to push it forward to shoot again) It only does this with semi, not full. I’ve tried installing the trigger about 4 times and nothing has fixed it. I’ve tried everything (even putting a crap load of grease on part of the trigger) From what I can see, on semi auto, the “silver” part of the trigger catches on one of the sector gear’s tooth and I have to manually push the trigger forward to get another shot. The gear timing is correct, so that isn’t a problem. The shimming seems fine.

Any ideas? I’ve opened it up about 5 times today and still can’t get it working………

Thanks and I love the site. It has really helped me :)

  50. Need to do more AUG stuff. It’s very confusing gearbox.

    by Blackpig December 5th, 2008

  51. Could you please do a deassembly video and reassembly video of an Echo 1 gearbox? I believe it’s a version 3. This would help me so much, I’ve been wanting a nice motor in my replica for very long now. Please tell me if im just stupid and there allready is a video like the one I want. Thanks!

    by Isaiah December 14th, 2008

  52. well im taking a JG stock gearbox and setting it for a better ROF but i want a passable fps so i want good compression. wat do u recommend for a bout a 320 325 fps and like 17 or 18 rps?

    by Sam December 15th, 2008

  53. Hi, 6mm

Your videos were very helpfull but i have a small question:

Does air nozzle should be retracted fully in to the shell after a shot in a single fire mode or not?
I have this half-moon “thingy” on my sector gear so it’s hard for me to set the pin on this gear to one o’clock

In my case the nozzle i retracted completly after a single shot but I’am not sure that is correct.

    Thanks for response

    All the best

    by HustleR December 18th, 2008

  54. One quick question. I need to do a down grade. I bought my sg 551 years ago second hand. It had already been upgraded. It shoots at about 340 fps right now. I need to to be at no more than 311 fps. That is the new legal limit here in Japan. At least with the guys I play with.

I have no idea what was done to it. I assume that the springs and gears were upgraded ,but to what degree I have no clue.

Here is my question. I am thinking of replacing the spring with something more “stock” (about 270fps). How do I find out what the current spring is. Then putting a tighter bore barrel in. Which leads me to my next guestion. How much does a tighter bore barrel increase your fps on average?

    Cheers in advance

  55. Very helpful video!
    Couple of questions:
After assembly my trigger gets stuck when firing on semi auto. I think I’m missing a step.
Can you go to detail on trigger assembly.

    thanks

    by matrixz1 December 27th, 2008

  56. can you also upload a video including the assembly of the trigger, sector plate, the litte springs.thanks

  57. Every time I get my spring in, either the anti-reversal latch or the trigger falls out and I have to start over. Any advice?

    by andrew January 19th, 2009

  58. Hi, i have a question, i thought my airgun died on me during a game last week, but.. i more and more realize that it could be the motor. i havnt upgraded ANYTHING! and i.ve looked over the mechbox, its a version 3 from CA 36k.

    could it be the motor?

by Fredrik Dahlberg January 26th, 2009

  59. Fredrik Dahlberg, it could be the motor, but it could be a number of other things. Complete death of any electronic device generally points to one or more of the following:
    1. The source of power (Battery in this case)
    2. The wiring
    3. The motor or first source of motion

In theory, if all of those work you motion would happen, therefore one of those must be broken. If you tried 2 batteries, rule option 1 out. I can’t help you with detecting the wiring or the motor.

  60. Hey, I was wondering how you get into a V3 Mechbox in a G36C. Thanks a lot!

    by Austin February 5th, 2009

  61. I am also having the problem where the trigger locks back in semi-auto, any ideas on how to fix this? I dont think it causes any probs to the gun’s performance but it gets pretty damn annoying.

    by Heartbreak February 9th, 2009

  62. Hey, I can’t get the head of the piston off to change my spring. It turns but it does not come off like in your video. Is there something wrong?

    by Huw February 15th, 2009

  63. hey im upgrading my echo1 g36c. i would love to put in a m120 spring so im going to be buying a new motor. along with the motor is there anything else i need besides a spring guide? i think im going to need new bushings…but im not too familar with the bushing im on a budget and there is a bushing set with no picture. the package comes with bevel, sector, spur, and shims. please tell me if i dont need something or if i need more. thanks a lot

    by daniel February 28th, 2009

  65. Hey.

6mm, when will be a HD versions on this Video?

    I wnat to download it.

    Cheers.

    by Marcin March 2nd, 2009

  66. 6mm you said “Unless you’re aiming for 500fps fullauto, most AEGs don’t need more than a M120 spring, bushings and gears.”

I’m looking at doing some more upgrades to my JG AK47. It already has a tight bore barrel, but this time I wanted to get into springs and stuff like that. With the seemingly endless supply of upgrade options on the market, would you recommend just changing bushings, gears and a new spring or go with the full tune kits?

    by Sgt March 6th, 2009

  67. Hi,

I was just wondering if you could come up with a video on how to disassemble, upgrade and re-assemble a v3 mechbox with blowback feature. I’m quite confident in opening up a mechbox without blowback, but the new blowback feature on current aeg’s might have some new parts that may come flying out unexpectedly. I’m not sure if anyone already inquired about this. If yes, could you please point me in the right direction where I can read up on it. Many thanks.

    by Mafu42 March 25th, 2009

  70. plz help!…i tried to do this and all the little parts went flying out! i got all the gears put back together but the trigger stuff and stuff under the tappet plate is screwed up (nothing broken just out of place) and i dont know how to put it back together any help would be EXTREMELY appreciated

    by Mick March 25th, 2009

  71. i put my G36 gearbox back together like the video told me, but the piston is coming back a little bit after every shot. i checked the timing 4 or 5 times and its right, so what would the problem be.

    by Chris March 28th, 2009

  72. DON’T….touch…the trigger…assembly…its a nightmare trust me, did it on the G36 gearbox and it was a HUGE pain in the @$$ lol. and for those of you that are nervous about it, its all really easy and just think…really think, everything in the gearbox makes sense, and its just common sense.

    by Gaz April 14th, 2009

  73. i know what gaz is talking about it took me forever to get that all together and the little spring in there was really hard to get set in there if you can try not to take out the trigger assembly or move it when you open the mechbox trust me

    by jewboyfresh April 27th, 2009

  76. There are actually 4 guns that use a V3, the MP5K being the 4th. It has no motor cage and uses a long type motor.

  77. is this version for the JG AK-47 Tactical?

    by James May 3rd, 2009

  78. All V3 boxes are essentially the same. The major differences are between the AUG, G36 and AK47.

    by 6mm May 6th, 2009

  79. I’m upgrading the following on my JG/Echo 1 G36(K):

    Piston/Piston Head
    Spring
    Spring Guide
    Gears (to high speed gears)
    motor
    air nozzle

6mm(or somebody else) , could you guys give me some pointers on how to be sure on how to upgrade these parts quickly without risking damaging anything or keeping all assembly (for the most part) together (like the trigger assembly that keeps popping out when i try to take the gearbox apart and back together)

(keep in mind, i need the 36 version…this version shows the trigger magically staying together the entire time, which isn’t the case with the 36, which is a butt to put back together)

    email: cr41gmc@uab.edu

pictures / videos are appreciated if possible.

  88. i upgraded my ak spetsnaz with an m120 spring ans somehow it fires 2 bbs at a time. does any one know what the problem is?

by Tokyo Maruzi July 23rd, 2009

  89. Alright, The Mech Box for the Steyr AUG is really difficult when it comes to resembling. Any 120 or higher spring will be difficult to keep in place as I try to attach the cover. Not to mention the spring loaded anti reversal latch is always out of place and pushes the bevel gear out of position. Also the Steyr AUG has a complex trigger system where it also pops outa place due to a tiny spring. The two trigger pieces also makes attaching the cover difficult.

Easier said than done. Maybe only AK47 mechboxes are taht easy

i’m very competent with v2 mechboxes but haven’t tried v3′s and i thought mechbox.com would be just the place to find some info. one thing that people need to know however is that mechboxes have no “timing”. they are self timing. as long as the sector gear isn’t engaging the piston when you reinstall it will be fine. even if it was it would correct itself after 1 cycle. other than that it’s a great video.

  98. The triggers r always nasty. Screwed up mine today when I assembled the marui g36 box. Everything worked fine but the trigger had to be returned manually after each shot so the trigger spring is probably somewhere where it’s not supposed to be.

Also the gekko shell is a pain in the ass to reassemble because the mechbox+wires fit just and just inside the pistol grip and then you have to squeeze the plastic shells together to get the bolts and pins fit in place
(****!) I’m so pi***d right now. Once it was so painless to tear it down but now it’s getting old.

Also the mecha’s shell has a loose part held only by the retaining strap on top. It cracked for some reason after I installed a m110 spring (everything else stock)
Cheap metal apparently.. At least I heard that the box should hold m120 spring upgrade without changing any other parts.

  99. Great Videos! Your videos are the most explanatory I have yet to see. These videos really helped me my first time opening and working on my clones gearbox (because I knew you should reshim and relube the gears of a clone). I can’t thank you enough for your hard work and patience.

  100. I’m surprised at all the demand for help with AUG boxes. The AUG’s box is no more complicated than any other V3. I’ve done AUGs, AKs, and SL8s and they’re all about the same in difficulty.

The AUG’s complex-looking wiring all comes off in one piece. Just unscrew the two screws that are holding your motor cage on and voila–off it comes. You don’t have to mess with those wires at all in order to replace the mechanical parts inside the gearbox.

Also, the mechanical trigger on the AUG may be a different shape than a G36 or AK trigger, but it works exactly the same. The trigger rotates the little metal bit behind it, and a tooth on the little metal bit pushes the contacts in your trigger box forward against a little return spring. I’m pretty sure that 90% of AEG triggers work that way. AUG boxes are not complicated at all, they just look intimidating because of those extra wires.
