Just a helpful tip on reshims. There are no exact guide to a reshiming. Unlike what other sites tell you Shims depend on many variables, version of the mech box, gear brand, brand bushings, brand of mechbox shell, brand of shims. so please do not use those “guides” I know from personal experience. It is based on trial and error and eyes.
by Young June 22nd, 2008Also Great Job Mechbox.com/6mm Love the new site!
Young, thanks for that comment! Absolutely true, the challenge with shimming are the infinite variables of parts, manufacturers and make/model of the AEG. Trial and hopefully no error is what I aim for. Using tips like closing the mechbox case and checking the movement of the gears really minimizes the chance of putting it all together only to find it doesn’t work at all. Good comment, thanks again!
by 6mm June 22nd, 2008Hello mechbox/6mm. I assume that all armalite airsoft guns are designed the same for selector switches. I have a dilemma with my M4A1 ICS. I recently disassembled the gun and did it correctly and all. The problem is that I cannot access the Selector Switch screw because I cannot find anything small enough. Do you know any tools that could access the selector switch? I really wished the manufacturers sold tools that they used to build the replicas ): .

by Twister026 June 22nd, 2008Twister026, what you need is an offset or right angle screwdriver. Craftsman (Sears) carries them, as I’m sure other parts/tools stores likely do. Try this link: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00941315000P?keyword=9-41315&sLevel=0

Hey,
by Connor January 20th, 2009I have a KWA M4A1, and I was trying to take apart my gun and remove the gearbox, however, the retaining pin above the trigger will not come out. I’ve tried just about everything, every other part has been removed, but for some reason that pin just wont come out. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
@ Connor, sometimes it does require a punch and a hammer to get those pins out. Be careful to select the correct diameter punch and not to hammer your thumb or the side of the AEG body!
by 6mm January 20th, 2009how would you disassemble a DBoys M4 CQB SD rifle since it has a metal silencer with an RIS system and not a handguard like the Tokyo Marui. please help. thank you.
by dylan January 26th, 2009hi, i have a CA M15A4 sportline and my fuse keeps on blowing, my full auto went out, and now in a couple of shots it blows a fuse. does anyone know whats wrong with it. thanks
by Ethan January 27th, 2009Would this takedown be valid for the KWA m4 also? Thanks alot.
by Matt January 28th, 2009Hi, I’ve got a friend that pulled his m4 apart. It doesn’t work anymore. He took the anti-reversal latch out, would that cause the gears to lock up? thanks
by Theo February 1st, 2009hey, my gun broke and i want to know how to replace a sperg gear (I think that is what it is called) and I want to know how to replace it. Thanks
by Frank February 2nd, 2009Does the G&G series disassemble the same way as the gun in this video?
by David T. March 3rd, 2009hi.. can you make a tutorial for m4a1 disassembly including the mech box.. thank you and more power
by Rhodkie March 4th, 2009is this similar to JG HK416?
Good job guys!
by arvid March 5th, 2009The BOYI BI Models have almost the same procedure as how to disassemble up to the gearbox (uses V2 Gearbox, by the way).
1. Some BI have no butt stock cover.
2. The Magazine Catch can be removed by removing the small latch above the trigger first, then push the Magazine Catch Button all the way in and unscrew the Latch on the other side.
3. The BI models have no Hop Up Guide.
4. Removing the front pin (with locking screw) ONLY can separate the barrel side from the gear side by sliding the gear side.
5. To remove the Butt Stock Rail, unscrew a locking bolt inside the tube using a long screwdriver. This screw is connected to the Spring Guide.
6. Remove the small pin above the trigger using a small punch or allen wrench AND a rear pin (with a locking Screw) before removing the whole GearBox. (Assuming the motor and the handle are already removed)
7. The V2 MechBox disassembly video applies when dismantling the gearbox.
In general the disassembly shown in this video is practically applicable to any M4 and M16 variants with just a few, minor differences.
Keep up the good work, 6mm. Produce more video demonstrations.
by Long Ranger 99 March 10th, 2009i have the old model marui m4 and i want to open the mech box but i can’t even separate the upper and lower receiver, i already took off the receiver pins, i’m afraid to force it coz’ it’s plastic. anyone?
by juner March 10th, 2009Hi, I have removed everything that this video shows to remove in order to get the gear box out of the gun’s body but for some reason I cannot get the gear box out of the gun. I can move the gear box around but it just wont come out. I dont know if theres anything specific to classic army bodies that make its dissasembly unique. The gun I bought is called the CA M15A4 CQB to be more specific. The battery is wired to the back but I cannot see how this might affect anything. Thanks for any help or answers.
by Michael March 30th, 2009Howdy folks at Mechbox.com! I have been having some trouble Dissembling my new AGM M4A1 Carbine’s upper and Lower reciever. It is extremly stiff, and i cannot pull them apart. Is AGM’s model supposed to be opened in this way? If so i will pull even harder, i just dont want to damage my new gun. Thanks!
by Brian Plant March 30th, 2009Hello folks here at Mechbox.com. I have one question to shoot out if anyone would be willing to answer it. by Brian March 31st, 2009Heowdy folks at Mechbox! Got a quick question. Does this disessembly work for AGM’s M4A1 carbine? Because when i pop out the receiver pin, pulling the two ends apart are extremely stiff, and i have yet to open it.
by Brian April 4th, 2009I have the AGM M4A1 Carbine. I want to seperate the upper and lower reciever, but when i pop out the receiver pin and try to pull them apart i cant. Its like the two are gorilla glued. Are there more steps involved or do i just have to pull even harder?
by Brian April 5th, 2009Just to say thank you for the guide, made stripping down my ICS M4 and fixing my selector switch problem a doddle!
Thanks!
by Skully April 5th, 2009The retaining pin (above the trigger) on my KWA m4 just does not want to come out, any suggestons? Thanks
by Matt April 7th, 2009hi,
by Carl May 7th, 2009i have a Colt M4 R.I.S and i want to change the selector plate. Does anyone of you can explain me very detailed how to disassemble and re-assemble your selector plate ?( it only shoots semi-auto because of the german regalement, and here it doesnt matter )
Have you seen the video http://www.mechbox.com/m4m16/rewiring-version-2-mechbox.html – This will show you how to remove everything inside the mechbox including the selector plate.
by 6mm May 7th, 2009thanks,
by Carl May 8th, 20096mm
Dear 6mm, if i upgrade my stock mechbox on my JG M4 S S system enhanced version from a m120 spring to a m130 spring will the stock piston be able to take the extra effort of the spring?
by Tanner May 13th, 2009Hi Tanner!
by R7 May 15th, 2009I thought I’d help you out on the decision some.
Definitely get an upgraded piston if your piston is not made out of polycarbonate. Your stock piston may last a while, but an upgraded one should be used for much greater life.
CHEAPER ONES- G&P Polyacetal and Guarder pistons are both amazing. They are your absolute best bet for durability and quality for a cheaper price.
MORE EXPENSIVE- If you want to spend more money, get the SuperCore piston (the best piston on earth), the G&G Co- alloy nano piston (very nice), or the Deep Fire titanium- toothed piston. The Systema black piston also looks nice (do not go for the red one!). The Angel clear polycarbonate pistons are also awesome!
Do not get an aluminum piston or full metal one. Potentially, shavings from the piston can cause problems.
R7
Will these steps work on a VFC 416?
by Mike May 16th, 2009Thank you R7, how reliable are the echo 1 polycarbonate pistons if you know?
by Tanner May 20th, 2009Hey Tanner!
by R7 May 31st, 2009To tell the truth, I have no idea. If you can, look at reviews (such as Airsoft GI). I trust that Echo 1 wouldn’t release lemon pistons. After all, it’s an upgrade from plastic to polycarbonate.
R7
thanks for making this video! i used it to take apart my JG HK416 with crane stock! i was practicing for when my metal body comes!
by Travis June 22nd, 2009Thanks for this! Very, very helpful. To get the gearbox out I had to trim away some of the plastic on the back part of the lower receiver though. Other than that it was a piece of cake.
by scott July 16th, 2009Thank you so much for this guide! For anyone that is curious, the JG M series disassemble in this way as well. I love your videos, they have saved me a lot of time and probably money as well. The only thing you guys are missing is how to put in new parts for an M4 and how to install a Tightbore barrel, throw those two up and your videos will be perfect! Keep doing what you are doing!
by Brendan July 23rd, 2009How do you disassemble a dboys m4?
by 123haby August 8th, 2009To whom it may benefit be careful with some metal bodys they slide apart instead of prying them then to the guy with the 614 JG good luck with the metal body upgrade they dont have one that lines up the rails yet. hope this clears up some ?’s. Also would like to see front end dissasembly of a JG 614 / 416, Thank you Mechbox .com
by Skathe August 21st, 2009Im getting a G&G gr16 carbine soon. Is there anyway to replace the spring (upgrading to a m120) without removing the grip and motor?

I do have a question, when you remove the gearbox from the lower reciever how then do you remove the wireing from the upper reciever so you can dissgard both parts?
by Max December 16th, 2009Hi. Im looking at swapping the Body over on My JG M733. Have you any times or a video on removing the Barrel?
