The all new Mechbox.com!

respond

… And we’re back! Wow, that was a long break! You’ll be happy to know that Mechbox.com is alive and well, and we hope you agree, better than ever!

For the last year and a half or so we have been very quiet, releasing no new videos or articles. We always did and do, know that Mechbox.com has a lot of potential.  For a time we just couldn’t do anything about it.  We got busy! We’ll spare you the details and say once again, WE’RE BACK!  We have a new design, new CMS (content management system), new video player and a list of new features!  Check out the new features on Mechbox.com:

HD Video

Yes! High Definition repair videos! This is one of the biggest features we have added, literally. Every new video we put on Mechbox.com will be filmed in HD.

Video Downloads

This is probably the biggest, most requested feature we have added. Now you can download any of our new videos direct from our site! Not everyones computer will be able to handle HD video (or may not care to watch them in HD). For this reason, we have made two versions of each video available for download: A HD version and a, smaller, portable version.

The HD version will play on PC, Mac, Apple TV, Xbox 360, PS3 and most any other HD capable device.

The Portable version will play on all current and last generation video capable iPods, iPhone, Zune and most other popular video devices as well as PC, Mac and the like. Don’t let the title fool you, the portable version of our videos are very high quality (640×360).

New Video Player

If you haven’t already, you should notice the new video player. Along with the new player comes new features for viewing our videos. Now you have the ability to: embed our videos on your own site, send them to friends and view them in fullscreen mode!

Feeds

This isn’t a completely new feature to Mechbox.com, but is much more accessible and convenient. You will notice on the sidebar two new sections Labeled Video Feeds and Content Feeds. There are several options under each.

There are two different Video feeds. A HD video feed and a portable video feed. Subscribing to video feeds updates you anytime we release a new video, giving you the option to download it without visiting the site. You can subscribe to these feeds through your normal feed reader or through iTunes (Soon). (iTunes has to approve each feed before they allow it into their database. Due to this, you won’t be able to subscribe through iTunes until they approve us. As soon as they do, we will make the links live and let everyone know!)

There are two different content feeds as well. The front page feed, which updates you any time new content is published to the front page of Mechbox.com and the comments feed which updates you any time new comments are added. You can subscribe to either of these feeds through your normal feed reader or e-mail.

New Navigation

We have replaced the redundant navigation from the old Mechbox.com with a simper one. Each category holds a list of the guns that correspond to it. Clicking on the model you want brings you to a list of articles for that model where you will quickly be able to discern if it is a maintentance, modification or upgrade article/video.

Twitter Updates

For all of you that are hip with the times, we have a Twitter account and are actively using it. That is, of course, when we are working on Mechbox.com related things. But we’ve gone one step further and integrated our twitter feed right into the sidebar so you can see what we’re up to without even leaving the site (unless of course you would like to).

If you would like to go to our actual twitter page, just click on the little blue bird under the Twitter feed in the sidebar.

That’s pretty much it! If you have any questions, leave a comment or refer to our FAQ page. Also, don’t forget to let us know what you think about the new look and features!

  1. I hope that you guys show us proper upgrades video’s next. Meaning the correct springs and other installations for different performance/the differences by letting us see. Give us a “birds eye” view of tricks. If not, still love the site. I know it will get better! Thanks alot…

  2. Hi Robert, definitely. Our goal is to get increasingly detailed as we build new content. Some of the next couple videos will include slightly more detail such as how to get the barrel out, removing the hopup bucking and so on… Thanks for the note. -6mm

  3. Hey love the new site! Cant wait till you get to the gas pistols (specifically the KJW M92F) and the grenades and launchers! Keep up the good work.

  4. I would like to suggest that you may want to have videos for dis/assembling common type of aegs. Most of these aegs have similar parts between manufacturers anyway. Like you have one for AK47/74 another for MP5, etc, may it be from manufacturer A or B. Generally your site is good as it provides information that may come as close as real thing itself through the videos. Appreciate for sharing stuff.

  6. Hey guys, thanks for putting all this stuff up, its great! Seeing some of the videos makes me want to rip apart my M4 to see what I can upgrade myself, yet if it aint broken – dont fix it. And Im king of braking un-broken stuff.

  11. Hey 6mm any chance you guys will be making a video for how to replace the gearbox shell in the event that it breaks? Im afraid that scenario is coming for my gun all too soon

    by Ian August 8th, 2008

  12. Ian, yes definitely. I just replaced a broken mechbox case in a Classic Army M16 not long ago. It’s not as bad as it sounds to replace, there are just lots of little things to remove and replace. No ETA on that video yet, but it’s on the to do list.

  13. I think the new site is fantastic. It’s a huge help to someone like me who is good with V2 and V3 boxes, but wants to see what how the AEG itself comes apart, not to mention all the other gearbox types out there. Keep up the outstanding work!
