Donate to the dead camera fund
A big thank you to everyone who donated or gave their support, we are truly grateful for the community support. The camera is on order. More updates coming soon…

Our trusty video camera recently died from some sort of electrical failure! We have several AEGs sitting and waiting to be shot, one of them we’d like to upgrade and give away!
We’re asking for your help to raise enough money to replace our camera. If you’ve ever saved a few bucks by watching our videos or you just like what we’re doing, please pitch in. So, click on the Make more videos! button and donate using ChipIn and PayPal.
Here’s what you’re helping us get for the Mechbox video productions to replace the dead HV20. We’ll be getting it from our friends at B&H.

After some research and digging around the web, I decided I could open up the camera myself (as it is well outside the warranty period now) to see if it was repairable. Using a few handy guides and some patience, I managed to get the camera open. I found the offending part that most likely caused the breakdown…it was the base of the tripod mount broken off and floating around inside the body!
Thanks everyone!
6mm

Well as this site helped me out a lot, i thought it is only fair to help these guys by donating something… even if its not alot.
by TaiRack December 28th, 2008But i hope there are other generous people out there, willing to help, and to keep a great project alive!
Thanks much TaiRack, we really appreciate it. It’s driving me nuts to not have a camera!
by 6mm December 29th, 2008I see.
by TaiRack December 29th, 2008Have you already had the chance to get a V1 MB in your hands?
Perhaps u remember my request a few weeks ago.
I got a lot of christmas money so why not give a little of it to a place that has saved me money and has helped many people, including my team (STAC) with their airsoft needs. +1 on keeping a great project and service alive!
by Wired December 29th, 2008WOW! Thanks to Evergreen Airsoft for the generous donation toward the dead camera! Thank you guys! http://www.evergreenairsoft.org/
by 6mm December 31st, 2008always willing to help saved me hundreds!!
by Brad December 31st, 2008just wanna see some more videos!!
Thanks again for the donations! Devin just moved us to one-third of the way there.
by 6mm January 1st, 2009Whoop Whoop Evergreen airsoft! I go there all the time. Ive been told you’ve been out there a couple times while you still lived in Monroe,WA. Sweet, keep up the donations guys.
by Wired January 1st, 2009shit…well, when i get my paypal account going, i might be able to spare $5. Might not be much, but im pretty poor at the moment (not too poor seeing as i have an aeg lol) but poor enough. I might make that 10 if you guys can do an extensive shimming video xD(i havent seen one). Good luck, and thanks for all the help.
by AgentU January 1st, 2009@ AgentU – Hey thanks for the note. I get it, sometimes you just don’t have big $$ to spare. I’m thinking about the shimming video quite a bit lately, it’s a really tricky thing to articulate with video, but I’ve got some ideas brewing. …more on that later…first, a camera would be handy!
by 6mm January 1st, 2009Nice idea, if i only could i would spend you a brandnew hightech-tv studio
But i´m sadly not Mr.Rockefeller, so i am just able to give you a tiny part of a new cam… I hope it helps anyway
Greets from Austria
Mapu
by Mapu January 2nd, 2009Yea, i think i might have to put off another project i had been planning because of money problems =( And i havent even seen a good text shimming guide. But yea, ill see what i can do. Site is great and my hats off to the people who donated already.
by AgentU January 2nd, 2009Kicked in a few dollars to help out, only $20 but it’s all i can swing at the moment. i’ve been on a couple times for a quick reference, if i sent you a mechbox would you rebuild it for me?:P
by Sinbird January 2nd, 2009Thanks again guys. We’re getting really close. Seriously appreciate the help, we’re not independently wealthy and are truly grateful for your help!! Of course, now we’ll owe you for a while…have to get crackin’ on some new vids.
by 6mm January 3rd, 2009My advice would be to contact local camera companies, Best buy, etc, and sell ad space on the site and in the videos. “This review was shot on an XXX model XXX courtesy of XXX”. They should be able to get one for free, or at a steeply discounted price. You’re already established on the web so your reputation should be easily sold.
Best of luck.
by Booligan January 3rd, 2009@ Booligan – Good idea. The challenge is with airsoft not being very mainstream and companies like Best Buy are behemoths that usually make media buys through the agency. That being said, I will reach out to a few sources locally and online. Never hurts to ask! Meanwhile, we’ll get a basic camera like we had before thanks to you guys.
by 6mm January 3rd, 200917th Contributer. Not much but its something!
by Simon January 5th, 2009Booligan – Nice idea. I work at best buy. Im sure the LEAST they could do is give them an employee discount. Idk, theyre funny like that. They might, might not. I know we do charity stuuf with schools locally but it would be best to talk with the head guys. Also, might want to try other airsoft sites.
Evike, AGI, etc.
by AgentU January 5th, 2009@ AgentU – Yeah, I might try reaching out to the local Best Buy. I have a close personal friend in the DSLR/camera area, maybe he has some “in” with the store mgr. On that note, about Evike, AGI, WGC, etc. What would be a HUGE help, is if all the Mechbox viewers sent them a note to support Mechbox. I’ve reached out to just about everyone, and really AEX and Airsplat have been the only ones to support us…not only that, they’ve been very cool too.
by 6mm January 5th, 2009Thanks again.
by 6mm January 11th, 2009I just wanted to say thank you again for pitching in on the camera replacement fund! It’s really encouraging to see that you like what we’re doing here at Mechbox.com. We’re really close to the goal and hope you’ll keep those donations coming. We’re excited to get some new videos created and appreciate your help in making that happen! P.S. So far, no response from dealers re: donating a camera.
Is there any chance you can sell the camera to someone for parts to make up the last bit of the funds when you get there?
by Taylor January 11th, 2009I am new to airsofting and needed to do my first disassemble for repair recently, a Classic Army MP5SD5. Without your guides I would not have been able to do it, period. With your help, I have now repaired that gun and upgraded the piston, piston head, spring, cylinder head and barrel on the same gun and another CA MP5. Not much, but here’s $10 to help out. Thanks for all the work.
by phxflyboy January 15th, 2009I told you i would contribute a bit
Not much, but ill see how everything goes and try and donate another 5 shortly.
